What is açaí? Where does it come from?Açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) is a fruit from the drupes family (peaches, plums, cherries, apricots, olives, etc.). They are often refered to as berries because of their size and shape. These "berries" are grown in abundance from palm tress in Brazilian Amazon near the equator. The local farmers climb the trees and pick these berries by hand in order to process them. They are naturally bitter like cacao beans and eaten with fish like lemons. However, just like chocolate and lemons, once a little bit of sugar is added this fruit turns into a delcious snack.

How do I store and prepare my açaí?Açaí can stay in the freezer for up to 2 years. In order to eat it with its famous creamy texture let it thaw in the refridgerator (12 oz will soften in 30 minutes). Try not to let it thaw on the counter to avoid it becoming soupy. When you can easily take a scoop, that is when it is ready. Be careful to not let it thaw too long. When fully thawed it turns into a soup, the consitency may change the next time you freeze it. If it turns to soup, no need to worry as it is a great base for any juice mixture. Please visit our RECIPES page to see the many different ways to prepare your açaí.
